Someone has swallowed a battery, what do I do?
If you suspect your child has swallowed or inserted a button battery immediately call the 24-hour Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26 for fast, expert advice.
Keep batteries out of reach of children!
o WARNING - KEEP BATTERIES OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN
o Swallowing may lead to serious injury in as little as 2 hours or death, due to chemical burns and potential perforation of the oesophagus.
o If you suspect your child has swallowed or inserted a button battery immediately call the 24-hour Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26 for fast, expert advice.
o Examine devices and make sure the battery compartment is correctly secured, e.g. that the screw or other mechanical fastener is tightened. Do not use if compartment is not secure.
o Dispose of used button batteries immediately and safely. Flat batteries can still be dangerous.
o Tell others about the risk associated with button batteries and how to keep their children safe.
How to install batteries.
Do not install backwards. All batteries and devices are marked with a "+ and -", make sure you line these up. If you can not see the "+ and -" on the device, then normally the end or the battery compartment with the spring is the "negative (-)". Always make sure the compartment is secured and not accessible to children.
How to store batteries.
Store in original packaging or safe battery container in a cool, well ventilated area. Keep out of reach of children.
Can I recharge the batteries?
No, the Alkaline and Lithium batteries can NOT be recharged.
The only batteries that can be recharged are NiMH rechargeable batteries such as Wallaby® Recharge™ and Wallaby® Recharge PRO™
